We have an approximately 3 week old Isa Brown chick that seems to be suffering. A couple of weeks ago we noticed she has a scissor beak, but she was eating fine and weighed significantly more that all of the others so we were not concerned. For the past 2 days we noticed she doesn't get up unless we come near or the others bother her. I separated her. She still eats and drinks a lot, but seems to have a large swelling on her neck and is obviously struggling. Her chest is completely bare, but has feathers elsewhere. She is MUCH larger than the other chicks of the same age. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi @Mrs Ugh :frow Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos or a video of your chick?
The swelling of the neck and her poop too :)

You mention that she is clearly not well. Getting up to eat/drink, but otherwise lethargic?
What does her poop look like - is it normal or loose with mucous or blood?

First is her typical position (she is lying in the feed bowl). She seems to even eat lying down. Second is her poop... Seems normal to me?. I got her to stand for the third and fourth so you can see the bulge. It is soft and moves when I touch it. She has no fathers at all on her belly.

I can see her beak is messed up, she also looks like a meat breed, which is why she's always laying down? What are you feeding it?

She is an Isa Brown (store said for eggs). We are feeding regular layer feed (I threw away the bag!) and since it's started acting sick I added some medicated chick starter. The others are thriving!

Definitely don't feed them layer. If it's the only one not doing well than it could have an internal problem and may not make it.

It definitely isn't an Isa brown, wrong color and it has the chest of a meat bird. Where did you get it?
