I work at a feed store and one of our chicks has a weird extra skin flap on her side, It's all bald from the other chicks picking at it. HELP! I have never seen this before, it seems to not bother her or cause her any pain (unless she was the one that pecked out her feathers) Any guidance and help would be much appreciated!

**Update**
We were able to find a customer that was willing to take her, He is knowledgeable about chickens and bought all of our golden laced Wyandottes as well. He promised he would take good care of her! =]

That's good of you to show concern for the chick and remove it from a bad situation. I've never seen anything that extreme in over 30 years. I wonder if inner tissue was separated from getting picked upon, or if this is a genetic defect. I helped my vet with a Golden Retriever that was attacked by a Pit Bull once and the epidermal layer was separated from the cutaneous (?) tissue underneath around the dog's neck. It looked very similar. I think that loose skin would have to be surgically removed and sutured by a veterinarian. I wish I had more answers for you. Perhaps someone else has some recommendations.

I separated her from the rest of the chicks so she wouldn't be getting picked on. I care very much for the chicks at our store and I am worried she won't find a home with this problem, (if it comes to it I can always bring her home myself). She is a Welsummer pullet. Like I said I have never seen anything like this before on a baby chick. Thanks for your opinion, we have a vet that comes in and does vaccination clinics it would probably be worth it to just give him a call and see what he thinks.
