Hello,
I had a broody hen so decided to put some fertile eggs under her that I bought locally, 3 Sussex and 3 brahmas. Every one of them hatched except one brahma, and all is going well, the mummy takes very good care of them, even now after 6 weeks. They all developed nicely, and have all got feathers except for 1 brahma.
He isn't too small compared to the other one, but has almost no feathers, other than a few on his wings and the ones he does have are a bit funny looking ( see photos ). He can't use them very well, we always have to carry him in at night , as the mummy now flies up into a basket that he can't reach. He also has trouble getting down, as his wings don't really break the fall.
When he flaps them ( when we catch him and he is trying to get away ), they often cross over and get stuck crossed, I put them back gently, but haven't seen that happen before with any other chicks.
Does he ( or her ? ) look normal to you ? Is there anything I can do ?
Other than that, he eats and drinks and is as active as all the rest !
Thanks for any help or advice !

Some feathers grow in slower.

Poor little bean! I’ve never seen this, but as long as you’re willing to care for him with his mini disability, I’d just wait and see what happens with him. Maybe something got stuck in his feathers early on and the issue will correct itself after he molts these first feathers. If he’s active and healthy, maybe he’ll be just fine even if his wing feathers are wonky :love .
