How is the baby chick doing? Looks like no one is noticing the question of the toe. If the problem is not resolving, please do try a post under emergencies. You can copy and paste and start a new thread there.
Thank you, the chick is doing fine and is adapting to a partial toe. It is still a little smaller than the other "hatch mates" but it is becoming stronger and more robust. One of my worries was that the other chicks would bully it or attempt to kill it, but they have not (which I view as a good sign... it is healthy enough the other chicks don't feel the need to remove it from the flock). I had to aid it in removing the chick from its shell as the membrane had dried out completely and although was no longer attached to the chick, it formed a second hard shell the chick couldn't get out of. I think it was weaker at first because I did wait (on advice from members of this forum) to help it until no vessels were visible in the membrane. I am not sure if the toe is a result of the membrane or one reason why it couldn't kick its way out and then the membrane dried (the old "which came first" argument! LOL!). But so far so good.
