I have a chick who has hatched by himself but his abdomine has not closed nearly anywhere near where it should be by now and part of his intestines are hanging out in a clump. I have never had this happen before. Will they draw inside like the yolk does by themselves or should I take this chick and cull it now before it suffers a long painful death? I don't know what to do. [IMG] [IMG]

I feel terrible for the poor little guy after he worked so hard to hatch out. It's taken since early this morning around 4ish and he just now has hatched. How awful! I'm just sick [IMG]

I had that happen one time. He passed on his own, but the intestines will not draw inside the body on their own like the yolk will, I think.

Thank you, Cyn. I'll just go ahead and cull the poor little thing. I can't stand the thought of it hurting any longer than it has to. [IMG]

That is so sad. A friend's baby had this and they operated and he is OK. I guess it can happen to a chick as well. So sorry to hear this.
