Thanks for the reply. So sad to hear that your hen pass away. I am worried too as this is my only chicken and cannot bare to see anything goes wrongBumping the post for you, I just had something similar with one of my hens it was a massive scab though. Does it look like a scab the pic is kind of hard to see. Unfortunately for my hen she passed away as I couldn’t clear it up it kept spreading and growing like a tumour.

Thanks for your advise. Will do the recommendation. There are no bad smell and suspect could be a scalp of recovery as she has something like that but very small before and it drop off. This is a bit big though. I am going to bring her to the nearest bird vet for a check, just in case. Can you post a clearer photo?
It does look like a wound.
Do you know if she was attacked by something?
Does the it have a bad smell?
Green coloring would likely indicate bruising. Examine the wound carefully for any maggots. It looks like it's already healing up, so if there is no smell, apply Vetericyn or triple antibiotic ointment to the wound.
It would be a good idea to look her over very well for any other wounds that may be hidden underneath the feathers.
I see. Need to observation to know this. Will watch her more often these days. My hen no longer lay eggs.. I think she is 5 years old now, not sure how long the lifespan of a chicken? Hope she could be as long as possible.Thank you, it was so tough losing her.
Does your hen roost at night or is she laying on the ground? (I’m only a newbie to chickens but I’ve been doing heaps of research) and when I was looking up what might have been wrong with my hen I saw that hens that lay on the ground and not on the roost can get sores on their chest from laying on it too much and they need to be roosting at night to avoid this.
