Chicken’s face tore off

I got home from school today and found that the majority of my chickens had jumped their run, which is unusual for them. After gathering the 10 outside I noticed that one looked strange. At closer inspection I found it had half its face torn off and the skin on the back of its neck.

It acts normal and the chicken doesn’t act like it hurts from what I can tell. Both eyes look intact. I found feathers where the attack happened.

I just have no idea how to proceed, is there a way I can try to treat it, should I just let it be and see what happens or would the best course of action be to bring out the axe. Any advice would be appreciated,
thanks

Luckily that is a superficial wound... She escaped with her life!

Scrambled egg... my favorite offering to birds that could use some support.

I don't actually agree about cleaning... the body does this amazing thing... called healing.. sometimes we might make things worse... It is a personal call. I had two scalping and no death or infection in the duckling or chick... but I know not all immunity is equal.

Keep the woulds covered with salve to keep the flies off.
Something sticky a moist like nieasporin or bag balm.
I would also keep her separated from the others until this is healed well as it doesant take much for chickens to start pecking at it.
Please keep us updated on her progress.
i hope she will be OK.

x2, Brahma.

Though I'd use a spray bottle of saline or vetricyn rather than a cloth. (Set to mist, not squirt)

Rinse out any contaminants, smear entire area with neosporin/triple antibiotic ointment, and just keep an eye on it.

Is she acting shocky? If so, you might want to bring her inside and keep her warm. Unless they're free-range, I personally would separate her from the flock, if you're not home to keep an eye on the situation.

Bodies heal, yes, but would you leave a wound like that on yourself undoctored? The wound should be kept moist and clean. That will help the body heal itself--dry areas and areas covered in mess are a great place for bacteria to grow, and then the body has to work even harder to heal itself.

She is eating and drinking and does her usual run from my hand so I don’t think she is in shock. I have been watching her with the others and so far non have pecked at her. EggSighted4Life’s strategy is usually more my style with letting nature take it’s course and based on the fact that they had two survive without attention I will probably just let it be unless it gets worse.
