Chicken acting like she’s laid

It’s just occurred to me maybe she was broody. We thought she was unwell. She wasn’t in her coop but she was either sitting under a table or in a box. We put her in an Epsom salts bath as thought she may be egg bound. She went to sleep for rest of day and woke up ok except still no eggs. Every single day she’s acting like she’s laying an egg now! So maybe we broke her out of her broodiness with the bath!! I didn’t know they could be broody so young but just read Broody type hens will let you know quite early on. I’m suspecting my mystery might be solved. She’s perfectly happy and healthy and friendly now! She had turned a bit nasty. Would that be explained by broodiness?
Yes. They will lay on nothing and can get cranky. They don't lay eggs. They have giant stinky poops. I'm thinking she was or is still Broody. You can break her by placing her in a Broody breaker. A crate with a wire bottom up off the ground with food and water. The belly needs to cool and then they are no longer Broody.

Maybe...maybe she was 'pre-broody'.
These are my go-to signs of a broody hen:
Is she on nest most the day and all night?
When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, does she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake?
Does she walk around making a low cluckcluckcluckcluckcluck(ticking bomb) sound on her way back to the nest?
If so, then she is probably broody and you'll have to decide how to manage it.

No none of this applies to her. She didn’t need pulled out of nest. She’d go in for an hour and come out as if she’s laid one. Last week I said she was perfectly happy But then it started to feel like anxiety for her and her behaviour was changing back to being aggressive again. She definitely wasn’t ok with what was happening, whatever it was and it made her aggressive with the others. She started to bar them from their nesting box and the mayhem on Friday was untenable! We both made decision it wasn’t fair to her, them or us even though we have no clue what’s going on.
Then we realised for the first time as this is how the 4th bird we’ve had to cull, one through illness, she looked like she’d had a stroke at 7 weeks, And two cockerels we couldn’t rehome, that we could consider dressing it and eating it. It’s been a huge watershed for us and right now she’s marinating in red wine. I have cried! But I know we did the right thing and her end was calm and peaceful and shes had a lovely life

I have had a couple neurotic hens...they were delicious.
Hard to cull a bird from the flock like that, but the peace that reigns afterwards makes you realize it was the best decision.

Did you find anything 'odd' in her reproductive tract?

Nothing was in her reproductive tract. Tim found a tiny yellow thing and a bigger one which we presumed were ovaries. He said they looked like yolks. Out two girls are happy and not stressed anymore. Our CCL was so stressed and noisy but Thursday Friday she was running around crazy abd she was getting beaten up all the time. I have some buff Orpington’s in the incubator and we will approach this very differently. Cockerels will be eaten. We watched a lovely French documentary after winter spring and the traditional French farmer lady said she always cried when she filled w chicken because it was sad and she respected and cared for her animals. But it was also the most respectful way to eat meat. After watching I agree! Her thighs are huge. Definitely been used. Her shape is completely different from a bought bird and the colour of the fat is beautiful!

Hi I have a Blue French copper marans who is 8.5 months old. She’s been laying lovely eggs since February. About a month ago she seemed unwell and we wondered if she was egg bound. Gave her Epsom salts bath and she went to her coop for rest of the day and seemed better but she had stopped flattening and started to crow! Someone suspected ovary damage. She’s become like a hen again, no more crowing flattening when she sees us. Last week she layed a soft egg. This week she’s been making nests in the coop sitting in there and coming out with her I just laid an egg song and there is nothing there. We wondered if the others were eating them if it was still soft eggs, we give them oyster shell and egg shells. Yesterday I separated the others to watch and she went through the whole process but still no egg. This is my first flock! Is this normal behaviour when a chicken starts laying again after illness. We don’t know what was wrong but we thought we were losing her but she’s absolutely fine now, energetic, calm and eating and drinking. Just no eggs for a month!
I've had a similar situation going on here with one of my hens . It's coming up to the 5th week with no egg in sight, the difference is she seems to not want to lay, she had her vent down for a 2 weeks. I took advice from an old post here and put cider vinegar into their feed, plus used another method here and fermented their layers feed leaving the feed as it is in another feeder. Then used some goat yogurt that they absolutely loved. She's back on form in her self, still can't find an answer for lack of egg laying.

Will copy this advice. We’ve just got into fermenting. We did give her probiotics yogurt, cider vinegar parasite treatments the works. If she wasn’t trying and being so distressed we’d have kept on. We can’t go back and wouldn’t want to still be where we were Friday but thanks for replying and I expect stuff like this will happen in future. I did not get that advice when I asked the questions. I felt so alone with it to be honest.

Hope this isn't hijacking the question, but regarding culling, we have culled cockerels and older hens, but haven't had much luck with making them tender, no matter how long we've cooked. I even followed a 5 day long coc au vin recipe found on this forum. Any advice on that?
