So I made a post a couple days ago about how I thought my chicken was eggbound..
I did an epsom soak and put olive oil in her vent. I didn't feel anything though and she hasn't laid an egg. And I heard that it takes about 48 hours for them to die from being eggbound, and she's been like this for about 6-7 days I think.
She eats a bit, barely moves around, and just sits with a hunched over back. Eyes are open and her comb isn't pale. She doesn't drink much water though. All other chickens are fine, or at least not showing symptoms.

Any ideas...?

Who starts these insane rumors about deaths in a certain number of hours?

48 hours is not a magic number for egg binding.

Death depends on the individual animal and the level of severity of illness.

Now that that’s out of the way....

Has your chicken ever laid a shell-less egg, lash egg, or soft shelled egg?

She sounds miserable.
What do you normally feed your hens? Do they have oyster shell available?
Did you give her a calcium supplement when you soaked her?

Please do so.
A crumbled up Tums will help or 1/2 of a human catrate with vit D3 tonight, then again for the next few days.

Has your hen passed any poop?

Did you just soak her once?
Repeatedly is helpful.

Just because you didn’t feel an egg doesn’t mean she’s not suffering from being egg bound, laying internally or having other reproductive disorders that are similar to and/or related to eggbinding.
Salpingitis is one of several.

@nchls school !
I’m hoping what you just posted was some kind of crazy auto correct.

Veterycin is NOT the same as PENICILLIN. It’s not even an antibiotic.

It is a brand of several products that are all meant to be used TOPICALLY.

It is not a “medicine” to be given orally.

I thank you. You are absolutely correct. I deleted that post. The product we use is Norocillin which is penicillin.

Now it is time for this old man to stop posting until another day when the brain I working right.

PHEW! :th
:bow Thank goodness.

Just wanted to make sure you didn’t have chickens dropping like flies!

No, she's never laid a lash-egg, soft-shelled egg, or anything out of the ordinary.
We soaked her 2 times.
We used to feed oyster shell but we ran out and we have been giving crushed eggshells lately. She has passed a couple watery poops in these past days.
We didn't give her any calcium supplement when soaking, though.
