Sheriff! It is you! -- I recognised the jail:I am terrible sorry. I know the pain all too well when we had to have little PeeWee put down after our donkey stomped him. I learned that day how much I loved the little guys and how, no matter how bucolic it looks to have all species enjoying the farm side by side, It isn't safe. Good fences make good neighbors.
Give yourselves time and try again. Emu mating season beings again in late Fall.
Hugs.
Hi there, I would like to know what happen to your Emu with the leg? Did it adjust by itself? ThanksI am currently having the same problem with my 4 week old guy, his left foot is turned out at least 90 degrees, he walks and runs and is otherwise healthy but I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. We think he may have a torn ligament or something due to slipping when I had him on the kitchen floor, I just feel awful about it.![]()
Hello my emu has the same exact problem. He’s 2 months now and I hate to say it has been getting worse with weight gain as they aren’t full grown till the age of 6 months I worry it will brake. As you all said he eats, walks, runs…well wobble runs the best a twisted leg emu can and seems happy but I just feel so awful and sad. I wish there was a way to fix it.I am currently having the same problem with my 4 week old guy, his left foot is turned out at least 90 degrees, he walks and runs and is otherwise healthy but I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. Hi i know this post was over 10 years ago but how did your emus leg go? Did he end up needing the surgery or did he adapt nicely? Only asking because my emu has started to show signs of this recently. So I went to my vet, he gave me a few options, he said if it was a commercial emu he would cull it, but since it is a pet....1. send me to a specialist who does nothing but birds, etc...2. break the leg and reset it and cast it.....3. leave it be and he will adapt to it. I think I will leave it be for now, with all the above mentioned about surgery it is not 100% guaranteed he will be fixed properly, and with the possibility of infection I have opted to leave him be, he is perfectly healthy right now, he can run, walk, does funny twists, I just cant see risking it all. The vet seems to think he will be ok, my issue was with the weight gain and ruining the good leg, but as the vet pointed out, he stands on both legs and the muscles are developing appropriately.
