Emu chick with twisted leg, help!

So sorry for your loss as well. There is just something different about these amazing creatures, if only we could of had them awhile longer.I will probably have another someday, I miss his little whistle and those eyes.

I'm sorry you lost your bird, they are so lovable, try again when you feel you can because they really are the most awesome pets.

I am terrible sorry. I know the pain all too well when we had to have little PeeWee put down after our donkey stomped him. I learned that day how much I loved the little guys and how, no matter how bucolic it looks to have all species enjoying the farm side by side, It isn't safe. Good fences make good neighbors.

Give yourselves time and try again. Emu mating season beings again in late Fall.

I hope this note finds you well. I just celebrated 5,000 days of observations for Planet Rothschildi. Was out observing in the fog this morning. 13 tame-wild and fully wild emus running about. Four of them are grandkids of the original emu, Eric.

I am currently having the same problem with my 4 week old guy, his left foot is turned out at least 90 degrees, he walks and runs and is otherwise healthy but I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. We think he may have a torn ligament or something due to slipping when I had him on the kitchen floor, I just feel awful about it.

Hello my emu has the same exact problem. He’s 2 months now and I hate to say it has been getting worse with weight gain as they aren’t full grown till the age of 6 months I worry it will brake. As you all said he eats, walks, runs…well wobble runs the best a twisted leg emu can and seems happy but I just feel so awful and sad. I wish there was a way to fix it.
I know this was posted a few years ago and Wanted to see if anyone had an update on their emu that had this problem? Picture of my emu currently with the twisted leg on the right and he’s 2 months old.

This is a thing we've discussed in the past, kstan. Newly-hatched emus are safe inside. Warm. Plentiful food. You don't think of them injuring themselves because they're on a slippery floor.
