Weird question... So when a human gives birth there is the after birth right? like the placenta and stuff. is this the same when a chicken lays an egg?

I would say no...when they lay an egg, its contained within the egg shell.

A mammal carries the developing young in a uterus and gives live birth, by definition. A bird has no uterus, thus no umbilical cord or placenta, but rather lays an egg, which slowly develops, if fertile and brooded by the warmth of the hen's body. The chick is very self sufficient upon hatch. A mammal, again by definition, feed their young, using mammary glands, ie, breast milk. Thus the term mammal. Mammals usually have hair, while birds usually have feathers, among other biological differences.

Hope that helps.
