Chicken Alarm Clocks!

The 3 older chicks have been sleeping on top of the coop for a while now. The babies have now taken note and are now sleeping outside too. A few days ago the older chicks started making LOUD squawking noises waaaaay too early in the morning. I have neighbors and am always concerned about the noise SO... I jumped out of bed and three out some Cheerios. IT WORKED!!! No more squawking at an ungodly hour.

Well it worked too well. Every morning since they start squawking SUPER loud until I come out. The even come around the side yard by our bedroom window and up on the porch steps by the back door. What do I do now?

Can you shut them in the coop at night? They are at risk of being picked off by predaors unless they are closed in at night. I never would have thought of using Cheerios, but apparently it worked too well. You created a monster. If you can shut them in at night and perhaps darken the coop until a reasonable hour, perhaps you can break them of the Cheerio habit.
