I am new to caring for chickens. I've had the flock about a month so far. They are older chickens, about 2 years old. 11 chickens and 1 rooster. I have 6 white leghorns, 4 black something and a red star. Today I noticed one of the leghorns sitting on the nest too long so I thought I'd gently just take the egg out from under her. She pecked aggressively at my hand and when I started to shoo her out of the nesting box, she turned around and started pecking at the egg! I got the egg before she damaged it but is this normal behavior?
