So i went to the Chicken and Egg Festival in Moultan yesterday. I was really impressed. it has grown HUGE, and they even had shuttles to take you to the festival since the parking was so full that people had to park nearly a mile away.

There were beautiful birds everywhere, and they even had a section where you could purchase birds. The music was nice, the games were entertaining, and many of the booths carried unique hand made items.

The friend that came me, and I, agreed that the sudden growth has a lot to do with people's sudden interest in chickens over the past few years and that is spurred on by so many people's sudden desire to become more self sufficient. It is a trend I love to see. Food Independence is one of the greatest forms of insurance we can have. The more people become interested in where their food comes from, the safer our food becomes and the easier things will get on farmers as people start to realize just how hard raising food can be. IMO, any how.

This could also mean more people around to bring some rare breeds back from the brink of extinction.
I also talked up BYC at the festival. Many of my friends form high school are suddenly interested in raising chickens as well. Now as we head into our early thirties, the very things that made my family stand out with our small scale gardening and raising yard birds, now seems not so strange to the many people I went to school with.
I have been pointing lots of people to BYC.

It might be interesting if someone from BYC decides to set up a booth about the website at next year's festival. It only makes sense since Alabama is the third largest producer of chickens in the US, Both large and small scale chicken operations are an integral part of our area's culture.

The only complaint I had was that I didn't get there in time to see all the booths before the booths shut down. The festival closed at ten, but people were packing up their booths before six, while the place was still crowded and the sun was still high.
