Chicken and Fires. What to do?

Thank you all so much for the support and kind words! We brought them inside and put cardboard on the floor of the room they are in. There’s so much uncertainty right now but it’s so nice to have people supporting you. The hens seem to like their little place and have already started pooping :lau
it’s gonna be a big mess to clean up in that room but it’ll be worth it
Great idea laying cardboard everywhere!

The winds are picking up again tonight but with how much the fire has been contained I doubt that it’ll be blown back towards us. The girls got more outside time today and are back in the comfy warm bathroom. I think they’re gonna be spoiled by the time they go back outside 😂

And that's as it should be. 😉

So glad to hear you are giving them all this care! Still praying for you and the fires!

Hi. We live in California near the Eaton fire. We have yet to be evacuated but are prepared to leave at a moments notice. There is so much smoke and ash in the air, so much so that it is falling down like snow. We have a small flock of 3 birds and the air quality is around 200 where we live. I’m wondering what to do with our flock. Will they be affected by the smoke and ash that’s influencing the air quality?
Here’s a picture of the sky near us.
Hi! I am the chicken lady whose chickens were rescued by KCAL News crew. I found one rooster still alive as well and I begged National Guard and sheriff to rescue him. They did. But he is severely traumatized and has been crying. I’m trying to calm him down by hugging and cuddling him in a towel, maybe tomorrow I will soak him in warm epsom bath and treat his wounds.

Please keep them in the garage for the time being… in boxes, and just cover them with 1/4” mesh as the cardboard box’ “lid”. Plenty of water and multivitamin.

Hello I live near the fire too, and it looks like things are pretty safe now. I’m worried about letting them back outside, what about you? I cleaned out the coop and watered the lawn. I’m still afraid that they will ingest ashes that are leftover.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that! I cried watching that video 😭 How’s your rooster doing?

We live in Florida and there's only been one hurricane season that we haven't had to bring everyone in just in case. We use puppy playpens. You can buy on Amazon (hopefully they are still delivering there). In my past experiences, they are easier than crates because you can put pine (not cedar) bedding and it doesn't escape everywhere. You can use a cat litter scoop for clean up.
