We've had our broody hen sitting on one egg for a while, and honestly didn't think it would hatch. We had her in a pet carrier that we locked at night on a low ish shelf in the coop. Last night a racoon got in and was rolling the crate around and low and behold the chick was born last night too!
I have seen them both eating but I just got a really good look just now and the chick has an injury under one wing. The mom pecked it a few times and it went back under her
Wound is about the size of the area under the wing, wing looks a little held at different angle
Baby is chirping and eating. Wound looks dry
SHOULD I PUT ANTIBIOTIC ointment on it
There were quite a few mama feathers in the cage too
I feel so bad as I almost put carrier in the barn with the other other chickens night but they've been in the coop and doing ok. I should have listened to my instincts
Any advice re wound care or should I leave alone??
