I was in my coop today cleaning house and a mouse scampered by they caught it and ate it..
Is this ok?? can they eat mice without getting sick? I was AMAZED at how quick 48 chickens took that mouse out and
it was gone before i could even get over to them.. They went crazy over it like it was some kind of snack..

Mmmmmmmmm protien!! Yup, it's fine

It is a little gross. I had some chickens I had years ago all jump on and eat a mouse. There was nothing left-not even any blood. I didn't eat any eggs for a while after that. lol

Mice- no problem. I have fed mine small toads and even a foot long snake. The protein is good for them. If you get queezy, don't watch when they play tug of war with the things. Free treats are always good.

My bantam cochin swallowed one whole (on the smaller side, but still...)! They're pretty much just big tasty bugs to chickens. Just appreciate the free protein and don't think about it too much...

My chickens caught a mouse this week, I found it all ripped up and skinned floating in the ducks pool.

They probably would have eaten it if it hadn't gotten tossed in the pool. I'm kind of surprised the ducks didn't finish it off..??
