Ok, I've been feeding her about every 2 hours. She is eating somewhat slowly. I'm going to disolve the asprin into her mush that I made. Is it possible to over do it? I dont want to do more harm with the asprin.
Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread but I believe it has to do with weasels. Something is getting into my coop and killing my girls. : ( The walls are about 7 feet tall on the inside and another 1 - 3 ft off the ground from the outside. I don't have a roof on the coop because I built it inside my barn. I've had them for 2 years and this is the first time anything has gotten in. 1st chicken I found had been obviously partly eaten. I thought the other chickens had attacked it but the next morning, yesterday, there was another one dead, injury to the neck but nothing else. Another chicken has been badly injured. Whatever it was got at her head. At first I thought she was blinded. I put her in bathtub like thing... I think it's for a pond. I kept water right in front of her. Skip to today.... she was looking much better but I still haven't seen her drink. She has a feather stuck to her head in front of her eye. I tried to put some water on it to unstick it. I thought I had killed her... she was in obvious terrible pain so I left her alone. I did manage to get the feather away from her eye and she can see! I could see the feather was pulling on her skin and I don't want to injure her more. She has wood chips etc stuck all over her head but I don't know what to do. I got a feather and wood out of her mouth and wood out of her nostril but just putting one drop of water on her, literally one drop, seems to cause her extreme pain. Her entire head is a dried bloody mess. I think she is breathing through her mouth and smacking her lips is the only way I can think to describe it.
I bought some duramycin today but couldn't figure out the dosage (which is how I needed up on this thread so THANK YOU!) I also got her some nutri-drench but am at a loss of how to get it in her. I offered her a worm and she didn't take it. Right now she is in the tub in my van because that is the only way I know she can be safe (and I can't have her with the other girls).
My second problem is the coop is NOT safe, I am half done securing it by running chicken wire from the top of the coop to the roof rafters in the barn. I have not seen what is doing this but I think it's a weasel because of a print I found last night ... it shows 5 toes and from what I found online only weasel family show 5 toes. SO how can I secure the coop against weasels? How small of a space can they get in? I NEED to fix it tomorrow. My girls are secured but the conditions are less than ideal from them. I have a trap set and pray I catch it but I have no idea if it's just one critter.
Please say some prayers for my injured girl that she heals quickly. It's heartbreaking to see her in pain.
UPDATE I caught a raccoon last night and after reading about coons here it is most likely the villain.
The only thing I really need to know is how do I clean my injured girl up without hurting her? I still don't know if she has drank anything and it was attacked 3 days ago.
