Chicken attacked by dog

I now get to deal with a chicken with no tail feathers. Ripped by the dog?

Why does the dog still have access to the chickens? Have you done any training with the dog before letting it near your birds? If not, why is the dog able to get at them? If there has been no training, you really can't blame the dog. What untrained dog can resist playing with those running, squawking, flapping, feathered playthings? We're dog-sitting for my son right now - the dog has had no training around chickens, so he is not allowed near them. He's a retriever and I don't want to set him up for failure or trouble by letting him get into a situation he shouldn't.

It happened during the same time. The dog is no longer ours, and I wasn't thinking about it when I walked down to where the chickens are.
