Chicken Attacked by dogs Injured kneck

Keep it simple is my recommendation, though meal worms are always a favorite. I wouldn't add in a bunch of extras. Chances are she isn't being picky but just not too interested FOR NOW.

The body is using energy to repair itself so she will likely be sleepy for a few days. My girl was very tired for a while. she ate almost nothing for the first 4 days. On day 4 I saw her take a couple bites and celebrated. Eating anything at all is a good sign. But I wouldn't worry about pushing feed or water since you've seen her doing both though not as much or as often as you'd like. And the movements were very slow and diminished but became a little more each day. Does she have any dirt in with her (or grit)? Have you seen her stand yet?

Since you've got her cleaned up, I probably wouldn't do excess baths since it might just stress her more. I'm sure the aspirin is helping and figuring you probably researched doses. It will help her to relax a little as the pain subsides and therefor her rest will be deeper and should add up to a better recovery time.

I think you did great. Now it's just patience waiting for her to get strong. I celebrate every time I see them eat or drink. But to me the best is when you actually see them preen for the first time. Preening would be a great sign.

I have very high hopes for your girl! She's in good hands. And with your help she is already shown signs that she isn't giving up! To me that's half the battle is them not being to broken to fight.

I agree she has fight in her that's why I chose to try and help her and not end her short of giving her a chance at fighting. Questions: What is Preen?, Dirt or grit..."like in her wounds?" Yes she gets up I let herwalk in the garage and she walked around looking around stretched her legs out.

So preen is when they clean themselves.

And dirt or grit would be what she uses to digest. I never use grit since my birds have access to the ground where they can get little pebbles and such that does the job. But if they were gonna be in quarantine very long I would probably bring something so digestion doesn't get too slowed. Though eggs won't need it, not sure about the pellets... or how long what's in their gizzard already, stays and is effect.

Walking around and stretching is awesome! Shows no major injuries hindering that process aside from general soreness. And looking around shows mental/emotional recovery instead instead of like hiding in fear.:wee

She does preen very little, I have not seen her eat dirt. She hasn't eaten much at all lately. She enjoys going outside I have to watch her. She has only eaten very little such as the bugs she finds outside and very little food. She does drink a ton of water day and night. no sign of infection...only other problem is her skin/fat cracks open to raw flesh/fat from her stretching her neck down to peck at the ground. Is there anything I can add to her water for nutrition since her hard/food intake is so low?

The eggs are probably pretty good nutrient wise. Though a little high in fat for long term use. She may be eating and you just don't see it.

There are different poultry/bird vitamins on the market that you can use if you like. I have used them on shipped chicks and they do seem to provide a quick perk sometimes. Poly vi Sol baby vitamins with NO iron is also a good choice. And people like Poultry Nutri Drench, though it doesn't have the B's which is one of the supplemental vitamins that is crucial IMO when you aren't treating cocci.

Yes, scab cracking is one of the issues my scalped girl had/still has. But it doesn't seem like there is too much I can do. So I just pay attention and make sure I don't see any decline in condition.

She actually looks pretty good. I am very confident that she will continue to thrive! :love

My chicken has been very shy she wants to hide instead of roam the yard. She hasn't eaten anything in two days I'm starting to worry. She does drink water but that is about it last thing she had was some watermelon two days ago. Her bright red skin atop her head is turning very pale/white any help much appreciated.

Can you post some current photos of her wounds?

If she is outside - bring her in an inspect the wounds carefully for any signs of infection (pus, odors, etc.) also look in the wounds to make sure there are no maggots.

Did you administer antibiotics? If so what kind, the dosage and for how long?

Drinking a lot of water - does her crop empty overnight? Feel the crop at night, then first thing in the morning - should be full(ish) then empty first thing in the morning.

It may be best to separate her out - bring her in so you can monitor her more closely and give her some extra care - provide her with poultry vitamins in the water. Try wet down feed, if she won't eat the layer feed - offer chopped egg, tuna or a little meat. Sometimes layer feed is not well accepted - if you have chick starter you can try that.

Keep us posted.

She may be getting lonely or depressed... in addition to the questions about the wound condition and crop emptying. She lost all her friends.

I think you are probably right to worry some. Let's see if we can get an assessment on what she needs... How many days has it been since the attack?

She has been inside for a week now...I let her out for random amounts of time I had her outside for a while the other day she found a bush and laid under it. Today she feels a bit warm. I put her in a kenel today didn't let her roam my garage like she has a couple of nights. Her crop feel smushy but it has definition if I go looking for it under her feathers you can see it. She drank a ton of water today. No foul smell, wound seems to be healing well. Yes her bestfriend/partner was killed in the attack. last Saturday at 8am was the attack. She took Dylan 1/2 cc for 3 days. stopped 3 days ago. Havent bathed her in 4-5 days.
