Thank you, I won’t try to do anything as of yet in regards to “fixing” her vent and just do as you suggested. I have been very adamant about keeping flies nowhere near her. I killed the one that was in the shed (someone could live in it though as it’s finished) and put up fly strips Just in case.It looks very serious. I am not sure that she has a vent prolapse, but there looks to be a quite a bit of vent damage and wounds. You can treat it like a prolapse but don’t push it in. I would try to trim any feathers near the wounds. Clean the wounds with vetericyn, saline, or you cannuse a bit of chlorhexidene (Hibiclens) from the first aid aisle with a little water to disinfect it once, and then rinse it off with a gentle water sprayer. Then keep the vent clean when she poops, and always keep some Triple Antibiotic Ointment on the wounds until they start to heal. Soak her bottom if that helps to keep her clean, but make sure that she is warm enough. This may take some time to heal. Look for infection, a bad odor, or pus. If that happens, disinfect the wound again with Hibiclens and water. She might stop laying for awhile, and that would actually be helpful to allow her cloaca to rest. Keep her separated in a dog crate and away from flies. Flystrike in that area would be fatal.
Should I keep spraying it 3 times a day with the vetericyn or should I stop that and just make sure there is enough triple antibiotic?
