I now have one buff orpington and i've a lot of stuff on how buff orpingtions are gentle and calm, but mine are crazy. When I try to pick them up she will run away. any tips on how to make them more gentle or how to come to the chickens at a differentt approach. thanks for the comments and help.!

If she is new you may just need time for her to get used to you, if you approach a chicken from behind they will automatically (in most cases) duck down in response to an instinct that a rooster is going to climb on. my orpingtons are quite skittish but they are young too. try hand feeding her and talking in low tones to reassure her, it worked with mine :)

She will be 19 weeks this coming wednesday, but recently her best friend was abductated by coyotes or dogs. So, im also thinking this could also be added fear.

sounds like she is young and skittish, it will take a bit of time and gentle encouragement for her to realise she can trust you, try feeding her treats from your hand and talking in really soft tones so she doesnt see you as a threat, do that every day and eventually she will realise you wont hurt her

Thanks for the tips and help. I will have to give that a try. starting today.
