Chicken Autopsy Results (WARNING: very graphic pictures)

First of all I am so sorry for your loss! Second, thank you for the incredible information and photographs. I didn't read all the responses, but it did look to me as thugh the growths very well could have been cancerous? I'm glad you had the time with her that you did

Oh my. I am so glad that I am not hungry, cuz if I were, I am not now!

Anyway, that was very very interesting if a bit gross. I am thinking multiple malignancies contributed to her death. At least she had a good life thou and not a factory hen.

Thankyou so much for posting that! I am having a bit of bad spell myself with my chicks and have yet to get a necropsy done. Your documentary of sorts is very informative!

I think the growth was probably blocking the airway and that is what eventually killed her. It could have been a site where she accidentally punctured her esophagus. (sp?)

Birds don't get puss like humans, but get that cheesy stuff, check out some pictures of what comes out of their feet when people do bumble foot surgery. Maybe she has some staff in there...

Thank you for this thread. Question about the ovary area.. My bird died yesterday and as we thought it could be gape worm we decided to autopsy.. No worms which is a relief. But she was having a really hard time breathing.
Upon opening her up we found 4yolks inside her and partially formed shells.. I'm not sure if that is normal developing? If someone can answer much appreciated.

Thank you for your willingness to share this experience. It helped me to get through a similar autopsy; and successfully discovered cause of death.

RIP Glory

Thank you so much for doing this! I just had to do my own chicken-taupsy and compared your pictures to what you found in your bird.

Having resourceful posts like yours greatly help other chicken raisers.

Thanks again@

The fat around the heart is normal. If you think about it, the body keeps fat as closely as possible to the organs that will require energy (heart, leg muscles, ect.). The clot in the heart doesn't seem significant because the blood will clot once she dies anyhow. Was there blood in just one portion of the heart or did you find it throughout he heart?
