I was recently given a 3 month old barred rock Pullet with a bad leg (possible slipped tendon, treatment is a work in progress). She's been settled down in a nesting box in the bathroom with a cage around her(she has a tendency to leap out of the box, the cage has remedied that) and every time someone peeks in to check on her she can be seen repeatedly and somewhat aggressively just snapping at the air as if she's trying to eat it. I wouldn't normally pay any mind to this behavior but its persistence is a little bit troubling.

sometimes,es my chickens do that when they're thirsty or chocking, but they don't constantly do it.

Well, she's not thirsty. She actually drinks her water in a similar fashion. She pretty much "eats" it.
