Our chickens are enclosed in coop and run and we have one bantam rooster. Our girls are laying.. but today we found one hen in the run with open wound, missing feathers and raw bottom!! We are new to chickens and got them in September. We isolated and gave epsom salt bath, rinsed chlorhexidine glucosamine solution and am currently drying off. Sweet girl won’t eat it drink but was totally fine 24 hours ago! Please help! What caused this, what do we do now??? Pics below.

Is your run secure against predators? What are the sides covered in? How big are the holes? It looks to me like she's been defeathered during an attack. I unfortunately have experience with this because our chickens free range and sometimes hop the fence into the livestock enclosure where the livestock guardian dogs are... and my dogs can't resist a good chicken "toy" or free dinner.

Yes very secure against predators. Can I crush up an oral antibiotic bactrim with correct dosing? She is now having mucus come from mouth

Have you seen raccoons around your place? That hen's wounds are what it looks like after a raccoon tries to grab a chicken and pull her through wire mesh fencing.

She has extensive open wounds and this is very hard on the internal organs due to the dehydration it causes and the strain it puts on the kidneys and liver. She may also have internal injuries. Her prognosis is not good.

Have you cleaned the wounds well? Have you flushed them with saline? Have you generously covered all the open wounds with antibiotic ointment? Have you treated for shock with Gatoraid or sugar water? You need to do all that if you haven't yet.

Yes and unfortunately she passed about an hour ago after resting with ointment all over. I was prepping her crate in the bathroom and she was on a towel and mucous was coming out and she ended up seizing and passing writhing seconds of seizing :/

UPDATE: she died :/
Im so sorry :hugs

do you know if any specific predators got ahold of them? (Like print wise, it obviously looks like a predator, but i mean did you see any paw prints or any clues?

how tall is your fence? Do You have cameras outside? Might be worth investing in some cheap ones.

We have hardware cloth all the way around secure and then the inside storage also has locked four doors to clean. It’s very secure. We have one camera in coop. Saw her last night in laying box but she acted fine yesterday.
