We are new to raising checkens...we have had four for the past year. We just got four new ones after being raised separately by a relative and are now 8 weeks old. We initially tried to put them with our full grown chickens but the chicken just attacked them.

Thus, we created a divider in the chicken run between the older and newer chickens. Somehow today. One of the young chicks made it through the barrier and was attacked by the older chickens. We found the chick running around the run and being held down and pecked at whenever possible. When we got to her, she had a very small amount of dried blood on her back feathers and a hole in her back..along with a bone (wing bone?) sticking out of her back.

She was acting fine still walking and running around, but obviously with her wing sort or drooping. She was fine and calm when I picked her up and held her on and off over the next hour or so.

We debated on euthanizing her and nursing her. We decided to clean the wound and wrap the wing in gauze to her body. We have her separated her in a warm room in our basement at this time.

Does anyone else have any experience/advice in dealing with this?

I attached photos if they help...

I am sorry about your pullet. I have no experience with so bad an injury involving exposed bone. I would spray it with Vetericyn or saline and try to cover it with a clean dressing overnight, then try to see a vet as soon as possible. Her wing may be broken, but there could be a lot of damage that may require vet care. Place her on a clean towel for bedding so that no pine shavings get into the wound.

Usually with most injuries we recommend a mild antiseptic (chlorhexidene, betadine, Vetericyn, or saline, then apply plain antibiotic ointment. This may require stitches or surgery to remove the wing. So I would use antiseptic and keep it covered until morning when hopefully you can see a vet.
