chicken boots?

so we all know bumble foot sucks, and we all feel bad after those operations or seeing our chickens limp around when it does happen.
so i guess i was curious, does anyone know or ever seen little booties for after fixing a chickens foot? i don't want to have something that will hold moisture just something to keep their feet safe for a few days to allow healing. i usually use that ace bandage and bundle up their feet so act as a boot but its a pain. i haven't had any issues with my previous things but i think this would be a cool idea.

I am sorry to say I have not heard of chicken booties. If they exist, you would most likely find them at mypetchicken.com.

However, when I have to deal with Bumblefoot, I use soft gauze pads with electrical tape wrapped on the outside as a bootie (changed every other day for the first week or so). The electrical tape holds its shape well (without being to restrictive) and the gauze acts as a padded barrier between the foot and the tape. This type bandage is also water-resistant and keeps the dirt out but it doesn't hold much moisture.
However, it is not any less work than most typical bandages available.


Keeping the injured chicken in a smaller, very clean separate area helps a lot with the healing process... Since a chicken's survival in the wild often depended on its ability to conceal illness, chickens will often try to scratch and be active even when they are in pain (which is not good for bumble foot wounds! ). Keeping bumble foot victims in a confined, low stress area (like a small chicken run or chicken tractor) with something easy to do (like a handful of grass-clippings) for the first week or two gives time for bumble foot surgeries heal.

Hmph. Sorry I kinda rambled. I could go on forever if the subject is on chickens but I often shouldn't.

ive had decent luck with getting those to heal. but recently my Americana "sam crow" she has a bad one and by the time i was done it was the size of a dime, so that one has been healing slow but doing good so far. but thats why i was thinking of little shoes for them would be kinda funny, maybe helpful lol

I agree ! Very good find. You know it’s kind of a pain with vet wrap and making sure it keeps all the junk out. I also feel sometimes it might be tight on the chickens foot so this is a wonderful or would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s flock or chicken supplies cabinet
