Chicken Breed Focus - Crevecoeur

Sand Hill Preservation does breed to SOP. Their goal is to preserve genetic diversity so they do not cull for minor imperfections. You can get a group of these and do your own breeding and culling. Their stock will be superior to any of the commercial hatcheries have to offer. I have bought many breeds from SHP and was never disappointed. I do not show so imperfections do not make phase me. To say the least, their stock is robust.
There are not many people with the passion and dedication to preserve heritage breeds that the Drowns display. I applaud them.

From there site:

1. All breeds within the APA Standard are selected to those standards. We do, however, not discard a bird from our breeding program for minor flaws, such as an extra point on a comb or a slightly off color eye, if the bird has other desirable traits. Our goal is to maintain genetic diversity and all defining characteristics.

To me that is not breeding to SOP. If you do not discard those minor flaws, you pass them on. That said I admire what they are doing to preserve rare breeds.

My four 6 week old Crevecoeurs from Ideal Hatchery.
They will be solid black by adulthood. Their eyes are so beautiful and their crests and beards are coming in with every bird unique in it’s style.
I think one is a cockerel and 3 pullets, idk for sure as they’re straight run bought only.
I try to only buy Heritage Rare Breeds that are dual purpose for my hobby farm. This way my son can show them at the County Fair and I’m supporting their future.
So far we’re loving their personalities, looks, and considering this being the breed we may invest in for breeding stock depending how they go omega to lay.

I have been looking for these!

I was surprised to see them listed as the breed of the week.

I found one breeder in Ga. When I contacted them asking if they were NPIP, I simply got a reply saying they would not ship out of state.....I would have driven down there for a breeding trio.

I am NPIP and therefore need a NPIP source.

I so want some of these. I am trying to get birds on the livestock conservatory endangered or threatened list. So if anyone know of anywhere that has them, pm me!!!!!PLEASE<<

Greenfire Farms (dot com) is my source and they are pricey but gorgeous.

Thank you for photos of you gorgeous Crèves! They are rare to find and documenting them is so helpful.
