Chicken Breed You Dislike?

I've raised a lot of breeds over the years, but my least favorites would probably be genetically bottle-necked breeds in the US like La Fleche, Houdans, Sultans, Redcaps, etc. Some of the major hatcheries offer them but the quality is awful. There aren't many if any private breeders with quality birds to offer. I'm not a fan of the Aman Cemani or any of the fibromelanistic breeds really, including Silkies. Tight-feathered Asian breeds aren't a favorite either.

The Silkies bug me for some reason. Breeds with feathers on shanks/feet also bug me. With that said, I'd have to say Cochins are probably my least favorite.

I also do not like chickens with feathered feet. It is funny that it was the Cochin and the Brahma with their color varieties that helped to make chicken breeding popular in the late 1800s in the United States, Great Britain, and elsewhere.

Are there any breeds you do like? :)

You are going to have to explain what you wrote. Genetically "bottle-necked" breeds. Does this mean inbred?

The Ayam Cemani with its all black face and eyes is creepy. They have a lot of melanin for sure.

Wasn't "Bullet" the name of Roy Rogers' dog? (This is assuming you know who Roy Rogers was.:))
BTW fully agree with you on Polish and Silkies. But they are pet chickens not real production birds.:idunno

Every American should know Roy Rogers. His dog was Bullet, The Wonder Dog. I have to admit I did not remember the dog. I used to watch the old movies on TV as a kid. I also liked Gene Autry.

Happy trails, I'm back in the saddle again. :)

Yeah, the Asiatics were and are still popular with the fancy. Helped create some of our american fowl as well. So I guess they have a purpose. hahaha

I would have to say the aracauna. even though it was important to the breeding of the CCL, the fact that the ear tuft gene can spell trouble for breeding two of them together and it has no tail feathers is enough to steer me away from it. Just my opinion though and no offense intended to those who own the breed...
