Chicken Breeds List STOLEN PHOTOS....

a lot of people do it,they get other peoples photos off googles image search, facebook etc, there is nothing to stop them so its easily done-consequences dont exist online until they get confronted for their stealing.

there is an easy way to stop photos appearing on google images, assuming the images are hosted on own webspace [which is easy enough to get free webspace]:

if the images are being hosted on own webspace,so that the addresses are static based, for example:
http://www.website.com/images/chickens.jpg
there is a way to get back at these hotlinkers, used to do it when had once rented a server.
make an image large enough,to dreadfuly shame them-go as tame or as vile as ones morals usualy go.
save it as the same name, stick it under some other folder on the computer so it doesnt overwrite, and upload it to the same image folder as the one thats being hotlinked.
delete that one,but obviously make sure its saved elsewhere to be reuploaded when he quickly takes it off his site.
have found this work a lot better than simply telling people not to use images.
-its easy to find out if any image is being hotlinked by looking in the htaccess logs, assming thar be one.

Ok, I am going to get lashed for this but I will be honest.

When I first started goofing around with making websites..I just took the pictures from the internet. Simply because I thought that if you posted them on the internet, then it became public property. Granted I was like 16 or 17 years old at the time, I do very much know differently now.

I just don't think everyone should start a lynching mob just yet.. It could very well be someone that is just new to the field AND its a fellow chicken lover. Don't birds of a feather always flock together?

I don't think any of us are starting a lynch mob, but you have to remember this is not the first time this has happened to too many of us. He seems to be trying to rectify the situation and hopefully it's a lesson learned for him.

Birds of a feather flock together, but not when they steal pictures

They don't actually get stolen and put on Google, some sites automatically let Google link to their images. I don't mind in that case because, usually, they link right back to the original photo and they make it easy for people to find my work. Some sites don't allow their images to be used by Google in that way.

In regards to the OP's problem, that really stinks. Some people think that if it's on the internet, it's free to use. But, it's possible that this is a young person who didn't know better, though that's no excuse.

Ok people let's see if I can clear some of this up, if you have ever created or help/contributed to creating a BYC breed page, or sub breed page or anything in that BYC breed area. Then your investigation is solved.

Below is what is posted at the bottom of the Breed page creater and you have to press the I AGREE BUTTON............... It says the BYC can use your pic's any time anywhere in the universe for any reason and you don't get a nickel or can say diddly about it.

this is it............
By clicking the button below you are stating that the information and images submitted do not infringe on any copyrights. You also agree that submitting the information and images implicitly grants BackYardChickens a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-revocable license to use and change said items for the purposes of running BackYardChickens. Basically, we want to make sure we can continue to legally use the information you're submitting.

Yeah, but did BYC consent to the other uses? Particularly where these entities are using the images to sell their products?
I'd imagine not. Note the language that says that BYC has the rights to the images "...for the purposes of running BackYardChickens." That's all that BYC has permission to do - use the photos on the website. BYC doesn't have the rights to forward license images based on this license, so I don't see that BYC could be involved based on the rights granted, and given the spirit of this website, I don't see ill intentions. I haven't read through the whole post but it looks as though other websites have lifted images off of this website for personal gain. If that's the case, then their use of these images needs to be shut down. And since they're so stupid about chicken images anyway, they should really be publicly flogged (sorry - not possible, but wish it were!!!)
I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice, but I work in intellectual property and I'd be happy to help out however I can.
