Thanks! It did help a lot! Barred Rocks look beautiful(mind you, they are all very pretty). By the way, I'm in Australia so the winter isn't really winterish
They all look very friendly though, and that's the important part

I won't be getting them for a while, so I have heaps of time to choose, though.

For a great layer I would go for Leghorns. They are the best purebred layers and mine go fine in the Australian Winter ( yes Im in Aus as well ).
You can also get them in many colours including - Exchequer, blue, blue-red, white, black, brown etc.
Look up Exchequers and blues, they are my favourite colours.

Although Leghorns are rather flighty.

You could go for Audulasians, they are a great bird.

Well it gets much more colder down there. But nothing the Leghorns should be able to handle.
The only problem with the Leghorns is their combs, you have to watch for frost bite, but that is only really where it snows.

Australorps are great layers. They come in black and blue.

they are also softer than most chickens, they have more feathers and they are softer. I LOVE the aussies!
The blue/green sheen on the feathers is magnificent. I wonder if Australorps have better blood lines in Australia?
