Chicken Butt Problem! Help!!!

I got my first ever chickens last year. I have never taken care of chickens before. My chickens have always been good and healthy and clean.... they just started laying eggs alittle over a week ago for the first time. At first the eggs were coming out clean and for the past couple days they have been more messy... I examined the chickens and found horrible stuff on their butts.... I am not sure what to do. Should I wash them and not worry? Is this a sign of illness? Please tell me what is going on and what I need to do about it!

Anyone???? What do I do about chicken diarrhea? I went out last night and cleaned their butts off. Should I order antibiotics from a hatchery or try yogert?

I had a bag of cracked corn from tractor supply in a bin near the coop. I gave some to my girls on very rare conditions as a treat. When I went to investigate the coop and the chickens due to the diarrhea then I saw that it had gotten damp and clumped up in some areas... Possibly slight mold... I asked my son who loves the chickens if he had given them any and he said he gave them a scoop. I am worried that he may have given them some slightly molded cracked corn. I threw the corn out and I will never get it again. At this point, I need to know what to do to stop the diarrhea, if anything.

I washed their buts and the one chicken has some missing feathers around the vent. The ones that do not have diarrhea have slight white crust around the vent.

Also, I need to know if the eggs are safe to incubate and if not, when they will be.

i think you did good by cleaning their bumms...i gave mine scratch with lots of corn once and if they get too much it can make them extra poopy. I have heard if they eat too many worms/slugs they can get diarrhea.

please keep us posted...i am a newbie and learning a lot as i go now. it's been a year and the things you learn!!!

Runny poop is pretty normal, fwiw. Poop. It's not always solid, and not always a problem.

I'd say, keep the bum clean and keep an eye out to make sure you catch any pasty butt. Get rid of anything that is moldy. In humans, we say sometimes the only way to know if it was thrush is to treat, and if it disappears, you can say that's what it was. Gentian violet will kill candida at least, and that's what makes Blu Kote purple. Thrush/gleet in chickens usually has other symptoms, if that helps any.

If it's not bloody and not moving and chicken is otherwise acting fine, I would not panic and would wait and watch.

Yogurt is always good, with or without issues, same with apple cider vinegar in the water. Fwiw.

i had something like that w/ some of my rhode islanders. someone said to just wipe it of real good and they should be fine
