Chicken butt

..I just noticed a large amount of poop stuck to one of my hens feathers under the vent, do I need to clean this off or will she take care of it? I also saw some old poop stuck to anothers feathers....If I have to clean it how do I do that? Thanks

You can simply give her a warm bath in a sink or basin, warm water and a little mild soap. Actually they usually enjoy this. You can also dry her with a hair dryer on low. This will give you an opportunity to check her over well to see if there is another problem.

Thanks...at least she is one of my catchable hens, not sure how she will like a bath though.

Check for lice before the bath. You will see them moving and see the lice eggs at the base of the feathers. I had a chicken that had poopy butt, but when I picked her up to check further she had lice.
