I noticed my 7 month old chicken nesting in the hay on the coop floor. When I approached her she did not try to run away. I thought maybe she was laying an egg. The next time I went in to check her she was in a different spot but still on the floor and not walking. She is alert and eats well. She drinks the water with electrolytes. Her feet do not have any visible infection. They do however look atrophied and won't splay out. She can't seem to put weight on them. When trying to stand, she falls toward her face and puts her wings out. I put her on her back and felt and stretched her legs. No swelling or apparent injury. What could it be?

Probably Mareks, there is no cure. Best to cull.

Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease as a chick? Sometimes a vitamin deficiency can also look like Mareks symptoms. You can try vitamin supplements with riboflavin and see if there are any improvements after a couple of weeks. If not, sadly it could be Mareks disease. This would mean if positive the entire flock is likely positive as well. Remember, not all Mareks positive birds show symptoms, but ALL Mareks positive birds are contagious. So it's not wise to bring in new birds UNLESS they have been vaccinated AND had time to build proper immunity BEFORE exposure to the virus. Mareks virus will also stay on the land for years so you will want to bring in ONLY vaccinated immune birds from now on IF what she has is Mareks .Hope this helps best wishes.

Thank you. She was vaccinated by the hatchery. (At least I paid for it). I have pulled her from the flock. She is in a horse stall and I set her out in the grass several times a day where she happily picks at the grass. I give her electrolytes in her water and have added the vitamin D3 serum from the capsule to her water as well. She seems a little better but still has not regained full mobility.
