I saw that with hubby and dd and we all said it won't work for everyday common chicken! What an idiot!

You're not paying for the coop, you're paying for the name designer! Seriously, everything in Manhattan is soo expensive! Little studio apartments are half a million. Living there requires lots of money and the willingness to spend it but common sense is not necessary. Plus the only way you'd be keeping chickens is inside your condo/apartment, it's not like there's people with free yard space in Manhattan. So it's essentially a battery cage for chickens inside a battery cage for humans! I like visiting New York, but living there would drive me crazy. And do you think they're going to raise common chicken? No, it'll have to be fancy chickens. It's the in thing right now, Angelina Jolie has pet chickens!

I am absolutely amazed at most of the comments on this subject. I certainly agree that this type of coop could not work in a country setting but it probably works very well for a couple a chickens in a very urban, high rise setting. Plus it is a great looking design. Just as a side note, I am familiar with James Ramsey, the archcitect and designer, as he is a fried of my daughter who went to school with him at Yale. He is no "idiot", "fool", "moron" or anything else said here. I have sent him the link to this topic and I am sure that he will have a great laugh about it while he is counting the days receipts.

Yes,but there is no thought into that design cept big business. Chickens will be the new toy pet, until the fad wears off.It will replace the toy dog. (seeing some glam girl with a pet chicken under her arms while it poos on her would be priceless).

The price says it all = big business.Time to broker pedigreed chickens at 3,000 per.

I am a designer, so I know their side. Its just to make money. We as chicken growers, hobbiests, specialists and so on need to find a way to rake the money from these richy types while keeping our ethics and morals in tact.

I respectfully disagree, and think that it is a travesty that someone would think this would work. Just take a look at the poop clean-out drawer. I don't know about your chickens, but mine poop three dimensionally. One pullout and all the poop would remain in the lovely piece of furniture. The design is slick and sleek, but not for chickens.

And we're amazed at *that* comment.

Luckily you are the very tiny minority on this.

i don't care what school he went to. All it takes is the right amount of money and one can have anything they want. I've known literal geniuses, brain surgeons, etc, who haven't got the common sense to fight their way out of a *wet* wrapping of single-ply toilet paper!

It's okay, we'll also just keep laughing at him, since the rest of us seem to understand and know that money can't buy happiness, common sense or intelligence.
