1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, I am new to chickens. They arrived as babies newly hatched at the end of May, 2020. They are 10-weeks old now.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 20
(3) What breeds do you have? 3 Leghorns, 3 Americauna, 4 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Red Stars, 1 Golden Buff, 1 Polish, 3 Cuckoo Marans, 1 Grey/Silver Orpington
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I enjoy how each one has its own unique personality. They are much more personable than I expected.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Cooking
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I homeschool our children, 2 graduated and 2 still remaining. We have no other pets. My desire is to feed my chicks as healthily as possible, growing enough food to feed them and us, and then use their soil to feed my gardens. Their eggs will be a great bonus!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? As I've done research on caring for chickens for the last 4 months or so, your site continually showed up. Now, that I'm fully into this, I need somewhere to ask questions and a community to learn from.
