Here is a commercially sponsored guide that costs nothing. http://poultry.purinamills.com/NUTRITIONMANAGEMENT/HenHouseHutchDesign/default.aspx
There is not a lot of science in building a coop and run. Take a look at the gallery to see many of what has been built. Soon you will discover that almost anything that provides shelter, protection, food, and water will be right.

Moreover, you can read the many posts about folks building their coops and runs and learn from their successes.

I agree with rachlore and chfite - no need for an expensive (or inexpensive) book! There are lots of BYCer-created coops/runs, and many of them go into pretty good detail about what they did to arrive at their completed project. And there are many of us who have some carpentry knowledge and personal experience building ours (thanks to the contributions in here from other members). Go through this part of the forum and the regular coop tab for ideas! Save some money! And above all else...have some fun!
