Hey! I have chicks in a brooder right now and about in a month or so they will have access to a run. I have to put a window into my coop, I have to make a little door so that they can go in and out and I need to make roosts and nesting boxes. what do you guys prefer? What do you wish you would have done and what do you like the most? And what are some entertainment ideas you have for your chickens?

Well all depends on climate and amount of chicks. Is your coop built ( what size). I like nesting boxes inside if room allows but daughter likes them outside ( think laziness) so guess depends on your situation too

Chickens mostly entertain themselves. Good to add dust bath if they don't make their own first ( mine do) and I like to put things like old chair or crate or sometimes cinder.. just different things to jump on ( and poop on :)). Seems to make them happy enough

Please show us your coop, inside and out.

Where are you located? You can put your general location, which helps for others to give more specific advice. My Ohio coop is built different than if I were to live in Florida.

roosts: all one level or ladder style. Poop boards are popular, usually used in combination with one level roosts.

roost height: the higher you go, the longer the distance your birds need to be able to fly down safely (landing distance), or you need to addramps. Heavier breeds can injure themselves flying down from too high a roost. roosts should always be higher than the nest boxes, otherwise they will tend to Want to sleep in the nest boxes (poopy eggs).

I live in about an hour away from Fort St. John.

I want to build the run farther into the trees.

And the coop is supposed to come where the dip is.
