Chicken Coop / New Routine Question????.........

How about this idea.....If I brought the doors back out flush to the edge of the ledge the coop would be back to the original 4x4'. I can take off those little roost pieces on the nesting box off. move the nesting box to the back wall, then just run a 2x4 in front of it for a roost? The roost would then be 4'wide....

Like I said, I want a fancy coop! LOL

Can you fasten the nestboxes to the outside of the coop and cut holes in the side for access? You'd have much more room inside, could keep the perches and add an extra roost.

That sounds pretty good to me. I agree they need a proper roost inside, which you need a little more space to accommodate.

You could also have the roost along the back wall, after sliding the nests toward the new front wall, keeping them on the side. I think you might have enough room to do that. The nests would still be easy to reach from your front service door.

The ledge is a great idea, but they do need more coop space, inside. You could always add a ledge to the front later, after you make your changes.

What's the weather like where you are? Do you need more ventilation in the coop when it's hot in the summer? You could add a cute little window with shutters if you wanted to. I'd make the ventilation opening at the top of the front wall larger, too.

Maybe add a little trim, a fun paint job, a window box and a cute sign. A shepard's crook with a hanging plant on it can add more color, too. There are lot's of things you could do to make this coop very cute.

I went and looked for this coop. I always liked it and thought it was so cute. It's a more streamlined architectural design, but the way it was done up it's adorable. Maybe it will give you some ideas.
