Hi I'm from New Zealand and my family reckon I'm obsessed with chickens.
I've been a chicken servant for over a year now. I started with 4 inherited chickens with our property, (sadly my original 4 were fairly old and not well cared for when we got them, and have now all passed. Bernie was the last and she was the most inquisitive bossy girl - Red Shaver.
I gained 11 (mum and 10 chicks) from a friend, these ended up half and half on sexes, rehomed and culled some of the roosters and kept one, my Bandicoot boy who is gorgeous. Now I have 13 chickens 6 of which are 5-week-old chicks just coming into their own. Mums have all decided that they've had enough.
My chickens are mixes of different breeds together. The new chicks are from a chicken breeder Orpingtons, wyandotte and two from a friend arcuana/Orpington cross
I look forward to gaining valuable knowledge and other crazy chicken friends from this site
