Chicken disappeared

I went outside last night to close the chickens in the coop but 1 was missing. I looked around for her with no luck. Went back out this morning still no chicken and no pile of feathers. So my question for you guys is if something killed it what would do it with no signs? I live in northwest Ohio fulton henry county line if that helps to narrow down the possibilities.

It is possible that it could be killed with no sign. Are they free range? The other possibility is she may have snuck off to hatch some eggs. They are amazing at hiding when they want to. We will have fingers crossed for that option.

Yes they are free range. I knew there was the possibility she snuck off somewhere or she wandered to far and got lost. It's just kind of strange we scoured the whole property with no luck of finding her or any signs of her being killed lol

well, with luck, she will show back up with babies. Otherwise, yes, it is possible for a preditor to get one with no evidence.

Keep a keen eye out for her starting about 3 or 4 days after her first disappearance because between about 10 & 2 every 3 to 4 days she will leave her nest for food, water, a quick dust bath, and a potty break. If you see her on the property don't crowd her but keep your distance and watch her out of the corner of your eye and she will lead you back to where ever she hid he nest. If you find her on a stolen nest and you want to hatch the eggs you will have to take the chance and let her finish incubating her eggs wherever she chose to lay them. And if you move her now she will almost surely abandoned her eggs.

If you don't have a rooster the eggs will be un-viable and she could kill her own self by sitting to no purpose for to long, or else a varmint could sniff her out. Every day she sets increases the odds of being discovered by something with sharp fangs. Here's hoping that she is just IN a family way and not IN-side a varmint.

No she hasn't shown back up. No we don't have a rooster chickengeorgeto. We ended up buying 2 more about the same as the ones we already have. Hopefully she'll show up soon but idk

I saw a pullet make it in what can only be described as a wilderness from November until March the next year and I doubt that she ever saw a human during that time.

I can only surmise that when she got ready to lay that she heard the roosters crowing and came back looking for a baby daddy.

I also had one escape my place and she vanished into about three acres of overgrown brush. I never saw her again for 2 years then one day she just walked into the yard. I know that these were the same hens because they were both foot marked as well as wing banded.
