I have a small flock of chickens about 25 that I let free range on 1 acre.
Over the past 6 months I have had 8 die.
I finally took one to the Arkansas Livestock & Poultry commission for a autopsy
& they said it died from
INFECTIOUS LARYNGOTRACHEITIS
MYCOPLASMOSIS
Now my local vet told me that I have to get rid of my whole flock because they
might somehow infect a commercial flock.
Does anyone know about this kind of thing ?

This is from a bulletin from Alberta, Canada. It gives a good overview of the disease which is a herpes virus mainly affecting backyard flocks. It's highly contagious and spread by poor biosecurity on farm implements and on shoes. You can spread it by walking into a store wearing the shoes you wear in your run. Depending where you live, you may need to report this to the local health department or Department of Agriculture.

The disease is similar in severity to avian influenza and New Castle disease.
