Chicken doesn't lay eggs

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Several things can cause no eggs, it up to your to decide which you think it might be...

First and easiest... maybe a hidden nest?

Second... molting and recovery... 6 months seems a bit too long. Also laying hormone is light stimulated. If they aren't getting enough daylight it can have heavy impact.

Third.. age/genetics... she is simply done and laid all the eggs she is going to. I have a Barred Rock who hasn't laid eggs in 2 years, but still seems healthy and happy.

Lastly.. medical reasons like Salpingitis, Egg Yolk Peritonitis, damaged ovary not producing... cancer, tumors, etc... Internal or external parasites, malnourished. Stress from predator visits.

Is her vent clean? Abdomen swollen and gushy feeling or normal? Odd stance? Normal appetite and activity? Feathers nice and shiny or dull and ragged? Light pink skin or angry red below the vent?

Hopefully all is well and she just isn't productive any longer. :fl

At least she's eye candy if she's not going to lay very much. I love interacting with my birds just as much, if not more, than I enjoy their eggs. I hate that I didn't start keeping chickens before now because I was missing out on their silly antics and all of the warm fuzzy feelings they bring about.

Is this egg production typical for cochin bantams? I've got a cockerel, but my daughter wants a pullet now :DI love how he is so big but so tiny at the same time. He is just so wide but super short. I believe he is wider than he is tall :lau I adore him
