Chicken Dog

I have rescued Akitas for over 25 years. I've had chickens for about 12. Despite the fact my chickens share their home with 40+ large dogs, I've only had 2one fatal encounters- one tiny biddy that got through a fence and was stepped on, and a young hen who was in the wrong place when Publix momentarily escaped. I enjoy both species very much!

Wow. What a good dog. Our dogs kill the chickens!

My chickens and I have an 5 year old Australian Shepherd. He generally stays away from the chickens.

He does play one game with the chickens. He will sneak up behind a hen and bump her, then walk away.

When the rooster was much younger, say 10 months, he pecked the dog's nose when the dog tried to share the chicken feed.

My dogs are raw-fed. There is a certain amount of irony upon watching my Aussie lying in the yard eating a chicken quarter with the chickens free-ranging around him.

Awwwww

I have only had the chicks for a few days, and the dogs (two border collies and an australian shepherd/GSD) are still in the intro phase. It is going better than I expected, actually. I have had them all out together and though the fluttering is VERY intriguing, everybody behaved when told to, and playing with me was more interesting than chicken tormenting. I am actually hoping the bc's will help a bit with the rounding up at night chores.
