I am seeing that my coop should be 2-3 sq ft per bird. I am just trying to clarify if that is only the "house" that they roost and lay in at night. So if we have 10 birds I need roughly a 5x5 enclosure for them at night? Not including the run?

I am thinking of doing a 8x8 coop. Divided in half, half for chickens and the other half for ducks, with separate runs. Does the sq ft included the nesting boxes?

What's your climate? I don't know about ducks so someone else will need to weigh in but chickens should have closer to 4 sq ft per bird for standards, up to 6-8 sq ft if you have an extreme cold climate.

Nest boxes do not count as usable floor space, so consider elevating them (for chickens) to save on floor space, or have them external to the structure.

Are your birds ok with going out during periods of snowy weather (either covered run, or they're fine with snow)? If yes, then 4 sq ft for the chickens should be fine. If no, then aim for at least 6 sq ft to account for days where they won't go out.
