Ok, so those of you who live in the southern or central US know how OPPRESSIVE the heat has been this last week. Well, it's not 95 degrees here, but it's 90 and still incredibly humid. So much so that my father, who is TOTALLY against inside dogs, let Diesel come in to beat the heat. Well, as awesome as that is, he WILL NOT let my roo come in. So, I've had a fan going in the garage and he has access to all kinds of shade as well- he free ranges while we're home. Still, he comes to the door, looking all pathetic, as if to say, "Come on mom! PLEASE come out or let me in! I'm hot... and lonly!"

Well, I got to thinking, and drew back on something I read on here. It may help to cool a chicken if you place their legs in cool water. Alas, an idea was hatched *mua-ha-ha* Ladies and gentelmen, I give you... the "tator hill chicken dunk"

I held him at first, till he calmed down and his "oh crap I'm gonna drown!" insticnt dissapated a bit, then I let go. He stood there for a minute- and jumped out and walked away.

I don't know how much this helped, but he wasn't panting once he got out like he was before! I know this idea has been done before- many times, but I just can't resist any excuse to take a pic of my roo boy...
Isn't he cute?

I'm fairly sure he is a mutt- just a generic Easter Egger. I was new to chickens 'till last summer- then I found BYC and my knowledge of chickens had ballooned! Thanks, BTW, I'm pretty fond of him, too.

I was wondering if he was an EE. Mine are too young yet. They have their fluffy faces, but not their pretty tails yet. I thought I'd keep one of the blk and white ones, but after seeing your red and grn one, I might have a difficult decision to make in a couple months...
