That is interesting..... I don’t have a rooster old enough to breed yet(he is 5wks and separate from my newly laying hens.)
My chickens are penned up in a fenced run.
I do have guineas. Should I assume a male guinea mated with her then?

Yes, 5miles + away.
The hen that laid the egg had escaped the pen a couple times and was hanging out with my guinea flock. We have wild pheasants around but that’s it.

That seems to be the only reasonable explanation. I’ll have to be sure my girls don’t get out next year when I plan to hatch their eggs. I really don’t want any weird crosses.
