My 2 year old Sapphire Gem is trying to pass either an egg or an infection and has torn her vent. We found her laying on the ground yesterday, isolated her and then we realized she had a fly strike. I think the fly strike was recent as the maggots were still very small. We gave her two epsom salt baths yesterday, picked out the majority of the maggots and cleaned the wound. She’s still trying to pass whatever it is and the vet doesn’t open again until Monday so I’m just trying to keep her going until we can get her in. She’s still alert and drinking water. I gave her a water, aspirin and tums mix via a syringe and she took the entire mixture. Is there anything else aside from repeating the above and making her food that we should be doing? Should we try to help lube her vent or wait until we know we’ve cleared the fly strike? She’s isolated in our garage (still very warm here), with access to food and water, in the dark.

I think you should give her extra Calcium to hep her pass the egg on her own. Epson salt baths were definitely the right thing to do. I would keep a close eye on her and keep that wound very clean so she doesn't get an infection. Seems like an egg bound hen but with the given information seems like it could also be something else. Just try to make sure she's eating and drinking to some degree (probably via syringe) And try to keep her going until you can see a proper vet. I hope this helps :)
