Chicken emergency - help!

An update and a couple of questions: her prolapse went in by itself overnight. She seems to still be having discharge, not sure if this is because all of the water we pored over her bum during cleaning? She is getting on and off her little perch stand my husband made, and eating. I haven't seen her drink today so I'm a little worried about that. We got her some pro-biotic / vitamins, and are getting ready to do the soak again.

The gal at the farm store didn't know what kind of anti-biotic to give her, but there was tetracycline and penicillin available, they're both "broad spectrum" so either should work, right?

Last night we gave her some leftover grower food - not layer feed, to help discourage laying, is that right? And giver her separate calcium?

Thanks everybody!

Thought I'd just give a little update. so in the last three days she has laid two more eggs. The first she seemed to be having trouble with so we gave her some water based lubricant, then nothing yesterday, then this morning she laid one ok by herself, but was making some straining sounds when she laid. There was a very tiny spot of watery blood on her egg, but I'm figuring it will take a bit for things to heal. She's much perkier yesterday and today, so we're hoping for the best!

Thanks for the update! I am glad she is doing better. But you still might keep her in low light for a week or so to help her stop laying for a while so she can heal.

I hope she continues to heal and makes a full recovery! :)

Gee, I sure hope shes ok. I just got 3 new girls too and I have no clue what id do if they got hurt. Im so sorry but I don't have any advice as I said before I just began raising chickens. I sure hope shes ok.Good luck!!!!:)

Hi everyone,
So I have have 8 full grown healthy girls for the past year, so I have a Little experience.my husband came home today with an odd looking chicken he said it was a rescue said it was going to be killed so of course I had to save it! I have no idea as to how old she is or even if she is a girl but it seems to be young because I don't believe she's fully feathered! The weird thing is that she has six toes on each foot? And feathers growing on her feet? Also her feathers

[/IMG][/IMG][/IMG] seem to be more like hair? She seems a bit skittish, I quarantined her from my other girls just to make sure she has nothing wrong with her.most likely my other girls will be mean to her:( I do you have experience with introducing new chickens to the flock so that's not an issue for the most part! but I could use some help as determining what kind of chicken she is/breed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It is a HE, not a she. It is a silkie, their feathers are always like that (silkied) and they normally have 5 toes. Extra toes on polydactyl breeds are not uncommon. He should start crowing soon. He is very much pet quality which is likely why he was invited to dinner.
